88 an hour Maintenance Worker - Part Time Solid Waste Department This position performs manual labor in support of the maintenance and operation of the county transfer station and convenience center.
The hours may vary but will not exceed 28 hours per week and will alternate Saturdays.

EOE Maintenance Worker Solid Waste Department JOB SUMMARY This position performs manual labor in support of the maintenance and operation of the county transfer station and convenience center.
MAJOR DUTIES Picks up paper and windblown litter/trash at facilities and along access road(s) to transfer station Keeps grounds clean and organized Cut grass, weedeat, and operate chainsaw Perform light duty building maintenance Assist with recycling operations Provide assistance to citizens unloading and loading recyclables and/or trash Make small repairs to access roads, ditches, and facilities Maintain trench drains and grates around transfer station Clean sediment and/or trash around and under scales Clean and maintain office area Operate and maintain lawnmower, weedeater, and other tools and/or equipment Assist scalehouse attendant with scalehouse operations Assist with operations at the convenience center Assist with maintenance at the closed landfill Performs other related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of operation and maintenance of grounds maintenance equipment including lawnmowers, weedeaters, chainsaws, and other small equipment and hand tools.
Knowledge of county safety rules and regulations.
Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
Skill in operating a two-way radio.
Skill in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Public Works Director or Scalehouse Attendant assigns work in terms of detailed and specific instructions.
The work is reviewed upon completion for accuracy, adequacy, and adherence to instructions and established guidelines GUIDELINES Guidelines include county and departmental policies and procedures.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of directly related maintenance and operational duties.
Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance and operation of the county transfer station, convenience center, and closed landfill.
CONTACTS Contacts are typically with co-workers, other county employees, contractors, and the general public.
Contacts are typically to provide services and exchange information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.
The employee occasionally lifts heavy objects.
The work is performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals.
Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, and other forms of PPE.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
